Jasmien Luypaert
Political Scientist
I am a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Ghentian Association for Political Parties and Representation (GASPAR) at Ghent University. I studied political science at Ghent University, where I received my doctoral degree in August 2024. My work is supported by the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO). I was first awarded a fully funded Fundamental Research Fellowship to support my doctoral research about mainstream parties and party reforms (2020-2024) and currently hold a Junior Postdoctoral Fellowship to fund my ongoing postdoctoral research about mainstream parties and social group appeals (2024-2027).

My doctoral research used a mixed-methods approach—including fsQCA, conjoint experiments, and regression techniques—to investigate the causes and electoral consequences of programmatic, organizational, and personnel reforms in political parties across Western Europe from 1986 to 2020.

In my current postdoctoral project (FWO, 2024–2027), I examine (1) how mainstream parties’ social group appeals in their manifestos across Western Europe have evolved over time (1960–2024) and (2) the electoral consequences of these social group appeals, both independently and when combined with policy appeals.
